Medical Simulation Center Medical Simulation Center

The Royal Free medical simulation centre is one of just a few places in the UK to provide medical training on virtual reality simulators. The centre explores diverse and innovative methods of teaching by using new cutting-edge technologies, helping to enhance surgeons’ range of skills and professional standards of care.

The centre has simulators which provide training on a range of procedures including endoscopy, endovascular, gastrointestinal and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. The Lap Mentor™ simulator, for example, provides training on keyhole surgery at a range of levels, from essential skills, suturing and procedural tasks to simulation of full procedures such as cholecystectomy (surgical removal of the gallbladder), hernia repair, gastric bypass, sigmoidectomy (surgical removal of the sigmoid colon), salpingo-oophorectomy (surgical removal of an ovary and the fallopian tube) and others.
